The award-winning choreographer and founder of OtraDanza (since 2007) is considered one of Spain’s most distinctive voices in contemporary dance. Her works combine instinctive physicality, poetic imagery, and powerful dramaturgy. For over three decades, her creations have toured more than 25 countries and have been presented at major international festivals such as Jacob’s Pillow, the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, and the International Dance Fair Düsseldorf. Recent highlights include La Mort i la Donzella (winner of 3 Max Awards—Spain’s national theater awards, 2021), Vigor Mortis (2020, winner of three Performing Arts Awards), and Sempere (2023, Best Dance Production at the Generalitat Valenciana Performing Arts Awards 2024, winner of the Premio Gira Escena Premiada, and selected for the Danza a Escena circuit). OtraDanza’s repertoire comprises 40 full-length works that have been performed in Europe, Asia, and the Americas. Asun regularly creates commissioned works for renowned international institutions, including the Institut Valenciano de Cultura, the Axis Dance Company (San Francisco/Joyce Theater/Jacob’s Pillow), the Luna Negra Dance Theater (Chicago) and the Tanzkompanie Osnabrück.
OtraDanza
Founded in 2007 by choreographer Asun Noales, OtraDanza is a leading contemporary dance company recognized for its relentless search for visual and dramaturgical poetics that create profound connections between artists and audiences. The company has toured extensively across 25+ countries spanning five continents—Europe, North America, Latin America, Asia, and Africa—with a rich choreographic repertoire presented in diverse stage formats. Since 2008, OtraDanza maintains its artistic residency at L’Escorxador Cultural Center in Elche (Alicante), serving as a hub for creative research, interdisciplinary collaborations, and professional training. Beyond stage creation, OtraDanza combines artistic production with research and pedagogy. In 2023, OtraDanza expanded into academic research, publishing contributions to scientific journals and the official journal of Spain’s National Academy of Performing Arts.
OtraDanza also organizes Abril en Danza Festival (since 2012), now held annually across three cities—Alicante, Elche, and Murcia—showcasing national and international artists while building networks among cultural institutions. Recognized with numerous awards including the Premios Max (2021), OtraDanza stands as a bridge between tradition and innovation, local identity and international impact.
